intro

Perfect party album from Caribbean-born, but now Californian-based reggae star Binghi Ghost

This is a good Reggae record. It has a strong energetic rhythm and a lot of political lyrics. Binghi Ghost grew up on the Caribbean island of St. Croix which is a place full of music. He grew up listening to blues, jazz, reggae and rap. This shines through in his music. He moved to America after graduating and he now lives in California. This is his first album with Relic Records. The album starts with ‘Nah Support,’ one of the best songs on the album. It mixes steel drums and brass with rap lyrics and an electro influenced beat. The guitar kicks off track two but again there is a lot of electro in the background of this song. It takes the album further in the direction of American rap. ‘Big Up’ is one of several American influenced rap songs on the album and these often pull away from a reggae sound. There is a strong hip hop beat on some tracks. ‘Good and the Great’ has its roots in hip hop music and ‘Sadness’ continues this theme with electronic drums and a darker sound. At over an hour, the album begins to drag on a bit towards the end. Ghost puts a lot of emotion into his music but the album could do with being a bit more concise. All in all though a great party album, and definitely music to groove to.
