intro
Middle-of-the road at best rock from British act Mostly Autumn, totally destroyed by its appalling lyrics
Looking at this CD it is easy to mistake it for one of those atmospheric albums you can find in aromatherapy shops. The ones that feature dolphin sounds and "sounds of the sea." What you do get, however, is mediocre rock music mixed with some of the worst lyrics I have ever heard. Mostly Autumn have been compared to Pink Floyd and Genesis but I honestly can’t hear the resemblance. The seven musicians involved are obviously talented and play their instruments well, but there is no originality at all in their music. The best comparison I can come up with is Evanescence, and even their lyrics are better than these. A good example of the dire lyrics can be found on the opening track, 'Out of the Green Sky'; “Out of the green sky yellow flowers scatter on the ashes of the broken heart, I know what I was, And where I’ve been, But does it hurt where I’m going to be?” It’s actually hard to take this band seriously because they remind me so much of the spoof music videos you get on comedy shows like ‘Smack The Pony’ and ‘French and Saunders.’ Maybe if you're a fan of gothic rock bands like Night Wish this could be the band for you, but if not my advice is otherwise steer well clear.
