intro
Strangely disappointing new single from the usually dependable Kills
There are several words I can use to sum up 'Love is a Deserter', the new Kills EP, in its entirety, but "disappointing" is probably the most accurate. After listening to it repeatedly (in different positions, in different locations, while attending to different culinary matters) I have to say it's doing nothing for me. Which bites because I adored 'Keep on Your Mean Side' when it came out in 2003. Here the riffs sound old and tired, the vocals largely forgettable, the percussion gasping for some injection of life. What happened to the fizzing bluesy electro popsters I fell in love with? The lustrious velvety synth and poetic boy-girl dynamic seems to have vanished, deserted. All told, I'm hoping it's just a poor choice in single rather than reflective of the full album. 'Cos I want them back.
