intro
Wishy washy and uninspiring lo fi pop on new single from the highly touted Tom Vek
Well what can I say about this record? To my ears it has the same energy as a 4 year old with too much sugar and about the same level of enjoyment for the rest of us. The verse is Iggy Pop-ish (which is a good thing), but the chorus is wishy washy with no real melody or lyric that is memorable. All in all this is quite a poor showing from what I understand is going to be the next big thing. On the plus side it's good to see multi instrumentalists coming back to the fore (all instruments played on the track are by Vek himself) but this doesn't make up for the lousy songmanship shown here. I sincerely hope I hear better from him very soon. To look on the bright side the track has a distinctly disco feel with lots of very pleasant hi hat action but again this doesn't make up for the lack of a tune! All in all I can see this very easily becoming the new darling of NME kids everywhere but, for me, it's simply a load of pap.

We Have Sound (2005) |
Stunning debut album, recorded entirely in his father's garage rock., from Tom Vek, which proves itself to be a "veritable tour de force combination of electro wizardry and unrelenting rock and roll" |
