intro
Excellent art rock and electonica on debut record from new American band, which proves to be "epic, melancholic, tuneful and discordant in pretty much equal measure"
Synthesisers are a subject close to my heart. I own several and think they are perhaps one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century and to some extent this album is pretty cool simply because it uses them in abundance, How would I describe this music ? Well, it's kind of art meets noise meets the mid 80's with a healthy dose of smack. Um... or something like that. Its in fact pretty good to just have it on in the background as each tracks rolls pretty seamlessly into the next and to this end the band begin to approach Pink Floyd territory. Obviously with nowhere near as much force or tunefulness but still it’s a pretty good approximation of a 21st century Floyd sound. I am actually lost for words about this album, it is a definite grower. Every time I put it on something else hits me about it. Its epic, melancholic, tuneful and discordant in pretty much equal measure and its one of those albums that makes you want to see them live and be one of those dreaded people that stand at the back of venues and analyse the music on stage. Where was I ? Oh yes, buy this album. That’s all I have to say on the matter.
