intro
Almost-cabaret punk rock from Brighton group Anal Beard, back with a third album of well-observed caricatures of people, relationships and situations
Anal Beard, punk, almost-cabaret band from Brighton are back with another album of well-observed caricatures of people, relationships and situations that have you laughing along, despite leaving you with a feeling of déjà vu. 'A Date with Vinylman' has the eponymous hero on his first date, only to discover that his date just doesn't understand why he needs so many records, let alone why he feels the need to arrange them alphabetically. Something I'd never do - no, certainly not. Oh okay, I was bored. 'I Feature Prominently In Three Blyth Power Bootleg Videos' is about a real ale drinking trainspotter who allegedly used to live in Brighton. The song documents how quickly people learned to avoid being cornered for a repeat performance of the first time they met him. One thing is certain. Anal Beard seriously advise you not to go to Camber Sands for your holidays. There are 2 songs on this CD to tell you why not- 'Layman's Holiday' where Fuckbastard doesn't get to take his Princess to Camber, and 'Return of Fuckbastard' where he does. And let's face it, Fuckbastard himself is a very good reason not to go there, but if that doesn't convince you the inner sleeve has some more write ups of why not to go. I recently saw them perform live, entertaining adults and children alike, at a free folk festival in Tallington, organised by Blyth Power. Live the two singers/performers Paul, otherwise known as Grebn, and Rich, also known as MC Sofa, leap around and encourage participation from the audience with incredible energy. Changing lyrics to make it more acceptable for parents, they didn't fool the kids - "Shout Flip" says Paul. "Fuck" shouts the small child. Observant, ironic, and very funny Anal Beard had me laughing on the train - always a bonus if you don't want anyone to sit next to you for fear you're a nutter!
