intro
Third EP from Reading-based alternative metal group, Pitchblend, which proves to be refreshingly totally out-of-step with much of fashionable rock
This is refreshing. A band making music on their own terms in their own studio with their own agenda. Pichblend have been floating around in my consciousness for a few years with my brother introducing me to them originally, I was impressed then but felt their music was a bit overproduced, but, however, now feel the mix is right! It is truly awesome combining obvious US metal influences with a modern trend for Hardcore but with the added joy of decent melodies, “proper” singing (none of this shouty rubbish!) and, dare I say it, even some Prog elements. The players are all hugely talented . Widdly solos are played to full effect, but are backed by the kind of riffs that would make the devil wake up and listen. The production value on the EP is also significant for a band that do it all themselves. They obviously have had a decent amount of time in the studio and I would probably say financial backing to make a product of this quality. The level of achievement is truly mindblowing for an unsigned and, to be honest pretty, much unheard of band and for that someone will hopefully sit up and listen somewhere. I, however, don’t know how well this particular brand of Americanised rock music will sell in this era of angular guitars, late 70’s-influenced riffs and Les Pauls and Marshalls.
