intro
Lively, but ultimately uninspiring fourth album from long-serving Denver-based indie pop quartet, Dressy Bessy
Slowing down a wee bit on their fourth album, Denver's Dressy Bessy incorporate more sonics. Despite their Sixties' fashioned appearance, the quartet celebrate the pre-grungy aftermath of new wave. Girls put on lipstick then, yet were thoroughly sincere. Dressy Bessy are similarly slightly out of time. Most of this eponymous album is actually quite flat. At their best, Dressy Bessy throw themselves from one corner to the other with the aid of thumping and poppy basslines which leads to a pitched-up clash of melody and riffs. I shan't say what they're like at their worst, since Dressy Bessy do maintain a certain level of quality.
