intro
Excellent sampler-based and experimental second album from former art punks the Liars, which takes its inspiration from German myths and legends
The Liars' second album, 'They Were Wrong, So We Drowned' is wonderful, simply because its is not very rock 'n' roll at all. It comes across as being like a soundtrack to a film from the 70's. The whole theme for the album is based around tales of Germany's the Brocken Witches, with the tracks (rather than songs !!!) playing out both from the perspective of the witches and also their prey who were subject to being offerings to Satan. The music is sampler based in feel, and very experimental in tone. If this was a film it would perhaps be 'The Wicker Man', 'Suspiria' or 'The Blair Witch Project'. A great piece of work, and not art punk rock at all and refreshing for it. Damn cool stuff indeed.
