intro
Well-performed, but somewhat indistinctive new mini album from indiepop duo the Pines, whose singer is Washington C86 veteran Pam Berry
A 5 track EP or mini album, whatever you want to call it, this the first Matinee release for the Pines, a band I’ve followed from a distance since hearing 'Static' a track on a split single on Gifted Records with another Matinee band, Simpatico, which was very very good. 'Static' was a classic old fashioned English folk style track, which is amazing particularly when you consider that singer Pam Berry is American, and an indiepop veteran. This is by no means a bad single. It’s nicely performed with good vocals from Pam Berry and passable vocals from other band-member Joe Brooker, and some nice jangly guitar parts. But this is by no means as good as 'Static', which is a big shame. The songs are not especially strong, and whilst I wouldn’t switch them off, none make me think I’ll ever play them again. If you liked other Pines releases by all means get this, but be prepared for a possible let down.
