Electric Kool Aid - My True Intent Is For Your Delight
Label: Ochre
Format: CD

intro

"Mature' largely instrumental, ambient debut for Electric Kool Aid, the nom de plume of Curtis Lewis who is also one half of other Ochre duo, the Bass Cadets

Electic Kool Aid features one half of the Ochre duo, the Bass Cadets. With his first solo album, Curtis Lewis is also helped by his fellow West Country boys and Ochre artists Longstone. On the whole , this is a very mature album, not really post rock at all,but more ambient in tone and with a real groove to it all. Most tracks are very long and largely instrumentals. It opens with 'It's My Birthday' which has some pleasant acoustic guitar and crashing wave sounds, both of which are very slowly delivered. An under lined wrote-for-luck style drum pattern is also thrown into the mix. 'Blokka' is much louder, and more danceable and haunting, while 'In the Future' is again groovy and has a female vocal which graces the song's presence like another instrument. It also has a very restrained wild guitar vibe to it. 'Destination' is the shortest track. It is very 60's folk style in tone , and is like an acoustic Smiths non-vocal instrumental B side with a Cure like organ also added. 'Keep Hold of the Message' again uses female vocals. They remind me of Garbage, and it is once more haunting in a very offbeat way. 'Are We There Yet'has an instrumental groove, which is restrained, with a New Order-like bass line, while 'My True Intent' briefly uses a voice distorter has what sounds like a robot talking in its introduction, before slipping into a mellow groove. If there was going to be single off the album, then it would be'Everything I Do', which is the only track that sounds remotely poppy. 'Kamark' has a remix feel to it, and is very spacey with some great acoustic guitar, and it ends by being the one track which comes across as somewhat post rockish. 'For Your Delight' closes the album , sounding like a Cure instrumental B side or as if it has escaped from a John Carpenter movie.
