intro
Re-release of the "ridiculously entertaining as they are talented" Sadies breakneck and eclectic debut album, which includes elements of "surf, garage rock, Ennio Morricone, rockabilly and murder balladry"
Having witnessed The Sadies twice this year I can safely say they are one of the best live acts I’ve seen. As ridiculously entertaining as they are talented, they can distil as much sweat and blood and as many musical genres into a couple of hours as many bands can in a career. And they make it seem so effortless while whipping their audiences into a frenzy. Damn, they’re so good it shouldn’t be legal! On record they’ve yet to really capture their live appeal – Hell, even a live album itself would be no real substitute for that, though nonetheless their albums still have plenty to recommend them. Recently made more widely available here is the band’s debut, ‘Precious Moments’, originally released in 1998. Produced in his reliably unfussy and direct fashion by Steve Albini, it’s as good and obviously logical introduction to the band as any. Consisting of 20 tracks, belted out in less than 37 minutes, there’s barely enough time to catch a breath. Surf, garage rock, Ennio Morricone, rockabilly and murder balladry – ‘Precious Moments’ has all this and more –there’s even a guest appearance by Neko Case – what do you want, blood!? Unless the band have an appearance scheduled in your town imminently, get this now to tide you over, then start queuing for tickets – bands this good are rare and news travel fast.
