Moly's debut album 'Your Life Is In Danger' was recorded in late 2002 as a follow on to 4 other unofficial releases and also to an EP 'Expressing Scorn Contempt Or Disgrace'. Moly were originally a vocal band, but, however, as the band evolved it established its own sound and found its true voice in the music itself. 'Your Life Is In Danger' consists of 7 instrumental tracks. While each of them creates a different surrounding and uses various vivid sound effects the whole album feels like one long trip with no breaks between the tracks. When you put on the record the first nearly 3 minutes of the opening song, 'Streptomycin Karachi', sound slightly confused and unfocused, building up in volume and mixing together various different kinds of sounds. Then you become drowned deep down in the music listening to something that seems like people's voices calling from a far distance and then fading before you can catch them properly. While each track lasts over 6 minutes it's a very original sounding album with every second proving inspirational with its overflowing sounds and catchy rhythms. Perhaps it's the dark artwork of the album itself, but to me Moly's music sounds in general dark. This, however, comes out in countless original shades. The rough and tense sound at the end of 'Not If you Want To Keep Your Spleen' glides naturally into the melodic sound of guitar at the beginning of the following track 'Visions Of Hate'. The key to Moly's music then is the way the band manages to build up from a quiet and gentle sound to something more high and loud, while keeping you right in the centre of it. Throughout the whole album you get treated to many variations of sounds and spacy music. Therefore when at the very end of the album Moly switch to simple and ordinary notes stripped far away from their previous three-dimensional sound it obviously marks the end of the whole trip. 'Your Life Is In Danger' is an amazingly profound record. It keeps your attention every second you are listening to it . The only thing I have to add is that Moly are releasing their second official EP 'It Rained But We Cheered' in October. Let's see if they keep up the high standard of music they have set for themselves with this 'Your Life is in Danger'.
