intro
First-rate indie pop from new British duo the Foxgloves, who have drawn early comparisions with the Smiths and New Order
The Foxgloves have excellent twee credentials combining Stevie Trousse (Papercuts Zine) and Joe Brooker (The Pines). Wheeee! The ‘gloves, as idiots might call them, seem to get compared to The Smiths and / or New Order. Lots. Which I can sort of understand, especially as they cover 'I Know Very Well How I Got My Name”, but please bear in mind that I don’t actually know anything at all about music, although this should be apparent by now. After a surprising initial reluctance to submit I am happy to say that the Foxgloves have grown on me like a friendly limpet. After all, those wobbly Keris Howard-esque vocals do make me think of Harper Lee. If you like the earnest and the bleak, come on in! Especially on 'You’re the Dream I Can’t Wake Up From' – oh dear it does sound sad! He misses someone very much and not even an afternoon spent watching 'Legally Blonde' and eating ice cream is going to cheer him up. Eek! I bet the Foxgloves were the last to be picked at school (or at least like to pretend that now…), but they can console themselves with the fact that they are likely to produce obsessively devoted fans…I’ve already made my t-shirt and changed my name by deed poll, how about you?
