intro
Drab solo acoustic rock from Elliot Smith and Nick Drake-inspired Irishman living in London
I don’t know why I keep getting interested in all these lonesome men with their guitars, as I keep getting disappointed all the time. I used to be a big fan of Elliott Smith (and still am), his colleagues and idols, but a couple of years ago, I realized they all sounded the same and that there were rather too many depressed boys locked up in their bedrooms singing about how unlucky they are and keeping suicidal thoughts alive. Here we have another one of those. Greg Murray is apparently an Irishman currently residing in England, and he has three previous releases on three different labels. According to the Bus Stop label website, Greg’s primary influences are Simon & Garfunkel, Nick Drake, Kings Of Convenience and Red House Painters to name but a few, and I’m not surprised. The four songs on this EP all sounds a fair bit like the bands just mentioned, and I must say that I can’t remember a single one of the tunes, even after listening to them repeated times. It’s not bad, don’t get me wrong. It’s just… plain.
