intro
Innovative third album, which incorporates "cartoon samples, traditional instruments and whizz like melodies" from the experimental, but always entertaining Japanese duo, Pop Off Tuesday
Glory to innovation and 'Pop Ahoy!' As breakbeats enter the dreamworld of Pop Off Tuesday, they do not render any DJ stuff, but bring about more movement than you would expect. The vibes from this Japanese duo, who challenge mind and fantasy with their quiet little masterpieces, breathe new life into avant garde pop. 'Pop Off Tuesday' is a chill out album for the intellectual that will also appeal to the Short Attention Span generation too. With Pop Off Tuesday esoterics will never be dull and experiments will never be time consuming. Incorporating cartoon samples, traditional instruments and whizz like melodies, 'Pop Ahoy!' is like a classic 5 tracks a side pop LP. There are touches of glitsch, as well as seconds of Beatles reminiscences, but all is subject to the Pop Off Tuesday method of form. Vocalist Minori sets the line and Hiroki zigzags around every track with care and imagination. Each track is a great treat and a small trip. Appearing to be chaotic, Pop Off Tuesday actually smooth down the twists and turns, and on second hearing 'Pop Ahoy!' becomes a groovy affair in spite of all of its odd sounds.
