My feeling is that right now Chicago is the epicentre for all things cool. Forget anything you believe about New York ! Music there is at an all-time standstill. The Delta 72 are on Southern Records out of Chicago. If I had one wish, it would be that they were the house band cranking out the soundtrack to the story of my life. They would just always be playing no matter where I was-at home, at work, in the car, on the bus, at the mall, at the pub, in my sleep and in my dreams. Everyone around me would meanwhile be sweaty and dancing all the time. Recorded out of Philadelphia’s “Tongue in Groove” with the help of friends from Royal Trux, the Delta 72’s 3rd album, “000” marks a definite departure from their previous two offerings, “the R&B of membership” and “Soul of a New Machine”. The band's line-up has changed a fair bit over the years, but its soul remains the same. With less funk and more rock, gospel singers, and heavy organ licks,'000', however, remains indie R&B that the Delta 72 alone can only deliver. It generates a blues-based punk reminiscent of the truly great blues rock of the late sixties, and has lots of good distortion. They are a band not to be missed live if you get the chance. I’m exhausted just listening to them-deliriously, wonderfully exhausted.
