intro
Eclectic and crowd-pleasing eighth album from Kaiser Chiefs, which combines retro-disco dance tracks with electronica, rock and indie-pop
Twenty years since their breakthrough album ‘I Predict A Riot’, Leeds band Kaiser Chiefs have now reinvented themselves with a new release. The wryly titled ‘Kaiser Chiefs' Easy Eighth Album’ is a mix of retro-disco dance tracks with flavours of throughout, in a fresh, slick production by former Rudimental member Amir Amor with the all-pervasive influence of Grammy Award-winning musician Nile Rodgers. This ten–track collection includes: the infectious opener and single ‘Feeling Alright’, co-written with Nile Rodgers, which fuses Eighties funk-pop with their distinctive indie-rock sound; frenetic ‘Beautiful Girl’; pop-rock lead single ‘How 2 Dance’, produced by Nile Rodgers; gritty ska-tinged, jazz-rock infused ‘The Job Centre Shuffle’; the anthemic ‘Burning in Flames’ with its subtle strings; the powerful ‘Reasons To Stay Alive’ on the snares of materialism and sensationalism; the reflective ‘Sentimental Love Songs’ with its straightforward romanticism, dedicated to lead singer Ricky Wilson’s wife Grace; the solid pop ‘Jealousy’ with their trademark acerbic, dry humour: “Of the seven deadly sins, will heaven let you in/If you’re never doing more than four?”; the quixotic laid-back rock of ‘Noel Groove'; and the closer, the upbeat ode to male friendship ‘The Lads’. Coming out ahead of a UK-wide tour starting in Torquay in April, ‘Easy Eighth Album’ is eclectic, crowd-pleasing and dance-floor ready.

Debut album from the much hyped Kaiser Chiefs, which proves "to be little more than a re-hash of Brit Pop vaguery, akin to Menswear at their very weakest" |
