intro
Intimate and sophisticated. jazz-influenced third album from singer-songwriter. musician and actor and Jools Holland collaborator Rebecca Poole
Singer-songwriter, musician and actor Rebecca Poole has just brought out a new record, her third. Previously receiving critical acclaim as ‘Purdy’, performing with Jools Holland’s band, Jamie Cullum and Lana Del Rey, Poole has now reclaimed her birth name, feeling that this is the most personal work she has done and a clear return to her jazz roots. The album, 'Dreamers Ball', comprises almost all original material, except for one cover, and is recorded in a classic jazz style which is also intimate and engrossing: “It feels like a musical journey back home and the Dreamers Ball is a timeless place where we can all go to lose ourselves in music”. This new release was compiled in a novel way: “I did an album taster in Henley a few months back and the audience helped me pick the songs,” Rebecca reveals. Songs to listen out for in this ten-track collection include: the harmonious opener and single ‘Wouldn’t Change A Thing’, highlighting her mellifluous voice; the catchy title track with its playful musical interplay; the latest single ‘Take It Easy’, which features prominently on Jazz FM and Smooth Jazz playlists; the dramatic ‘The Real Thing’; a sombre interpretation of Elvis Costello’s ‘Almost Blue’; and the closer, the soulful ‘Pieces’. Sultry vocals, coupled with thoughtful lyrics, ‘Dreamers Ball’ is an accomplished, sophisticated album by a charismatic musician.
