intro

Fantastic latest comeback album from reformed 1990s British indie pop trio, Dodgy

After the critically acclaimed 2012 comeback of 'Stand Upright in a Cool Place', the original duo of Nigel Clark and Mathew Priest and long-termer Andy Miller return with yet another impressive, offering more of their trademark catchy pop but plenty of variety for those who weren't as enamoured with the Brit pop tagging which tended to stick with them. Opener 'You Give Drugs a Bad Name' has a rock vibe and is not necessarily a pointer to the album or any direction change. Indeed the very next track 'Now Means Nothing at All' leans to a psychy 60's sound and is followed by a dreamy country-tinged ballad in 'California Gold' These three very different songs and styles suggest the band are happy not to take the safer option of some of their previous successes and a tip of the hat is due for their diversity. 'Are You the One?' is instantly likeable and has a great chorus with multi- layered west coast pop vocal harmonies and is just lovely . Acoustic ballad 'The Hills' has the band referencing the beautiful countryside of Dorset and the Pennines. Highlight and pick of the bunch for me is 'Never Stop'. This just oozes class and is a piece of pop perfection which you just can't stop listening to, a real triumph of a song and one that will certainly stand the test of time . The album closer is the title track 'What are We Fighting For', another ballad with a lush arrangement given the full treatment of strings and a fitting end to a really fine piece of work from them.
