intro
Inventive and experimental latest EP from London-based indie rock veterans, Comet Gain
Comet Gain’s latest four song EP ‘Fingerprint Ritual’ opens with an absolute epic track, ‘Breaking Open The Head Part 2’, a dreamy pop composition filled with vague mysticism and backward guitars. At over eleven minutes, there is a hardly a drag. Fresh off of their seventh, critically acclaimed record ‘Paperback Ghosts’ Comet Gain has certainly earned the right to experiment with their sonic pallet. The rest of the songs, while dwarfed by the sprawling ambition of their opening track, signify a glimpse behind the rest of their influence, from a dim-witted sort of folk rock fuzz on ‘That Lucifer Summer’ to a guitar infused quasi-protest, ‘The Insignificant Dignified’. There is a little bit of everything in a tight package, and that’s rarely a good thing anymore. Here it is however. Whether or not you’re already immersed in the understated British band, this EP is a great jumping off point for discovering the Comet Gain’s unique brand of alt-punk, Northern soul and garage hybrid of good old indie rock.
