intro
Fabulous 60's-influenced psychedelia on third album from Aylesbury-based drone rockers, Sunray
'Full Circle' is only Sunray's third album and their first since 2007, but they return on great form. 'Here to Go' opens the album in a hypnotic fashion, and an eleven minute piece of nu psych which edges towards the sounds of Neu and Krautrock. It sews the listener in and out in a repetitive fashion, and leaves them spinning. 'Revelation' has more of a jangly sound, and, again repetitive, has an early Primal Scream charm to it. 'Take Me There' is a recent single, a well thought out slice of psychedelia that has a West Coast breeze to it, but with enough jagged edges to make it sound very fresh. 'Baby Honey' is instantly hypnotising with it 60's sound, but in fact is actually a cover of the Pastels' single from 1984. 'Golden Dawn' is more folk-based, but with its sad Tindersticks-style strings could of easily sat on Love's 'Forever Changes'. 'Zona Rose' again has that West Coast breeze. The harmonies are the best side of the Byrds, while the slow jangle of a Rickenbacker backs its steady beat and is added by some slow fuzz. 'Tears at Sunrise' uses a sitar and recollects the Byrds. 'Thru the Night' ends the album, with a male-female duet, which recalls the Jesus and Mary Chain's 'Sometimes Always'. A lovely album.
