intro
Versatile combination of blues rock and psychedelia on fourth album from Ohio-based trio, the Buffalo Killers
On their latest album, the Buffalo Killers travel the road from earthbound to psychedelic and back again. The band’s changing sonic palate keeps the music fresh- with songs that stay on your mind. The Buffalo Killers are from Cincinnati, Ohio- comprised of brothers Zachary and Andrew Gabbard with Joseph Sebaali. Early on in their career, the band opened a string of dates for the Black Crowes after catching singer Chris Robinson’s attention. ‘Dig. Sow. Love.Grow.’ is the Buffalo Killer’s fourth album. ‘Get It’ starts the recording out hard rocking, rough textured, grunge like and with a dose of garage. he lyric is apt: “Sometimes you got to push your weight around.” Notable keyboards combine with the crunch of electric guitar and a steady drum beat, as a gritty vocal voices a litany of complaints. ‘Hey Girl’ is psychedelic pop craft- witnessing the band playing a blend of different styles, varying from song to song. ‘Blood On Your Hands’ is inspired and rootsy blues-infused rock and roll that brings to mind the band’s former stage mates, the Black Crowes. That the Buffalo Killers are a really solid band is again in evidence on ‘Rolling Wheel’. The song is a psychedelic nugget- at once down home, with some fine guitar based rock. A country rock aspect is evident on “I Am Always Here” which possesses a Joe Walsh like vocal quality. ‘Farewell’ is lovely with a hypnotic spider web like feel, and ‘My Sun’ is a sonic buzz of a tune with a grooving mantra of a lyrical refrain. “Always let your love come raining down.” ‘Moon Daisy’ is the magic tinged closer on what is a gratifying fourth album by the Buffalo Killers.
