Stunning name-your-price download and cassette only single from discordant London-based outfit, the Arrows of Love
Arrows of Love are the solution to 80’s-style, electro-pop revival zeitgeist. They’re raw, thrashy, angry and energetic. Arrows of Love sound like a band who know what they are doing and believe in their own sound, rather than trying to sound like anyone else. Certainly, you can have a go at picking out their influences – Fugazi, Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Reversal of Man, Cat on Form all come to mind – but those influences in their sound are organic; not forced. They are the firm handshake to counter the “alternative” scene’s wet fish. A band you feel you can trust. ‘Honey’ is their latest single, released as a “name-your-price” download or on limited cassette – showcasing their appreciation for analogue sounds over digital. Ok, it’s also available to download, but they’re allowed to show their appreciation for analogue sounds AND make some money. Jeez! Like all the best discordant noise, ‘Honey’ is built on a strong melody and a pop foundation that keeps it extremely listenable, on top of being an enjoyable kick in the nuts. Vocalist/guitarist Nima’s half sung, half barked vocals are complimented brilliantly by Arrows of Love’s other vocalist/guitarist, Lyndsey Critchley, whose promise to “bleed you dry” makes me feel frightened, while at the same time quite looking forward to it
