intro
Exceptionally fine first album from British-based singer-songwriter, Jules Winchester, that will be constantly replayed
This is a first album from Jules Winchester that deserves close attention! It is a joy - with an abundance of really strong songs by Jules with thoughtful, affecting lyrics and some lilting, catchy melodies. The material showcases perfectly the mellowness and range of Jules's attractive voice and her arrangements for keyboard and acoustic guitar work perfectly. The final song – 'The Book' - is a complete contrast with electric guitar, powerful backing vocals from Doris Brendel (from 90's band the Violet Hour) and sharp production by Dave Beeson. This works well too, and confirms Jules as a performer who can transcend musical styles with ease. I especially enjoyed the relaxing, leisurely and acoustic 'I Will Find You' as well as the gentle 'I Can See an Angel' which features some nice mandolin work from Chris Davis. The opening track 'The Day Has Come' is another delight. Any one of these songs – and several others here, including the title track – could very easily be huge commercial hits, as several music business professionals have already commented. Jules has been writing songs and quietly playing her guitar and keyboard for over 20 years. If she had been playing live and recording all this time, Jules might well have been a household name. But it was only when Jules met and started singing with Doris Brendel in 2009 that her potential as a writer and performer was finally recognised. Jules was persuaded to record a single – 'The Book' - with Doris's producer Dave Beeson. Something In Those Eyes', which is largely self-produced, is the natural next step towards wider and much deserved recognition for Jules as the original musical talent she is.
