intro
Excellent second album from Mojave 3 drummer Ian McCutcheon's side project Loose Saulte, which finds them moving away from their 70's country-based roots and into summery pop
'Getting Over Being Under’ is Mojave 3 drummer Ian McCutcheon's side project's follow-up to ‘Tuned to Love’. This is a wonderful slice of summer sunshine released now and promoted now in September, but I got my copy in Rough Trade as far back as July. ‘It's a Beautiful Thing’ kicks it off and it is exactly that, as beautiful as a recent solo Neil Halstead offering with the grace of Mojave 3 and the added bonus of summer sunshine thrown in. ‘Run Out of Morning’ has vocals from Ian’s co-singer Lisa Billson, a forward push to it and is a perfect wake-up song for the morning. ‘Hermosa’ is another slice of life delivered the Mojave 3 way, soft, slow and well-paced and a song to melt your heart. ‘Perhaps She Fly’ is delivered in a lovely twee fashion. ‘Happy I Don't Count’ has a joint vocal between Ian and Lisa, is sung in a way that makes Mojave 3 special and is gracefully delivered. ‘This is Love’ is again a duet, stripped down and sung as if by Tompaulin, and absolutely beautiful. ‘Sister Corita’ is like the Loose Salute of their last album, more country-based with its roots in 70’s Americana. ‘The Three of Us’ is a heartbreaker from the start to its end, with crisp vocals, and with real characters that you can believe in. ‘So Out of Time’ is a country number fronted by Lisa that gets your feet moving. ‘That's What You Said’ is stripped down and yet as lush as Mojave 3. A great album.
