intro
Excellent debut EP from Mojave 3's drummer, Ian McCutcheon's new offshoot band, which will appeal to hardcore fans of country and sunny Californian music
The Loose Salute were formerly the Loose Shoes and sound very 70's and American. They are neither. They are a new hardcore country-flavoured band formed by Mojave 3's drummer, Ian McCutcheon. The Loose Salute are a mere 7 piece who will appeal to hardcore country fans and lovers of great music from the Golden State of California where Ian McCutcheon likes to spend a lot of his time when he is not working with the Mojaves. When you turn on this debut EP and listen to the first track, 'Turn the Radio Up', you are instantly moved to another and more carefree place. The vocals are not sung by Ian but by the lovely Lisa Billson, whom Ian discovered singing while he was having lunch one day when he was recording a Mojave 3 album. The second track, 'Photographs and Tickets', has an element of Mojave 3, but is more Mexican in its flavour. Imagine a female-fronted Love playing the soundtrack to 'The Good, The Bad and the The Ugly' and you're there. Reminiscent of the Beach Boys, 'Death Club' is more harmony-based. You can smell the ocean on this track. 'Parades', the final track, is quiet and reflective, and is a folk track. A fine debut !
