intro
First-rate seventh album from Massachusetts-based hardcore act Converge, which proves itself to be one of their most accessible albums to date
US hardcore pioneers Converge are back yet again with another stunning release in the form of ‘Axe to Fall’. The band, who have been around for nigh on 20 years have built themselves up a great reputation and fan base all over the world and are revered by critics and peers alike as one of the most important, innovative and most importantly intense bands on the hardcore scene and the alternative scene in general. A true punk rock band who have always done things on their own terms and always stuck to their guns, transcending the coming and going fads and fashions along the way. While I still find them one of the most face rippingly loud and full on bands out there, ‘Axe to Fall’ seems to me, to have something about that made it easier to listen to and ‘get into’ instantly, which is certainly not a bad thing at all. That is not to say that they’ve eased up, far, far from it, but everything just seems to flow a bit more smoothly. This is a stunning album
