intro
Appealing, polished second album from American duo Department of Eagles, which while mish-mashing together music from the 1970's pleasingly, doesn't have quite the same appeal as their more lo-fi debut
Department of Eagles, the duo consisting of Fred Nicolaus and Daniel Rossen, ran up and down between New York and San Francisco before they started indulging in excavating music from the 1970's, yet their latest album mish-mash, and first for 4AD Records, fits the bill. Department of Eagles have finally got the knack of it and on 'In Ear Park' the silky sounds of Department of Eagles have achieved a dramatic suspense. Gone alas, is much of the amateur wit, just like the amateur surface noise from their 'Cold Nose' debut. 'In Ear Park' you will for the first time hear Department of Eagles enjoying more generously allocated studio time. Until the closing song 'Balmy' - an older favourite already - the album, while lovely enough and with no bad tracks, but a little flat. Probably a pleasant surprise as an introduction to them, but as a follow-up to 'Cold Nose' a bit of a disappointment.
