intro
Flawed new EP from Swedish trio Gentle Touch who have moved their disco roots into a darker Depeche Mode-influenced sound with mixed results
It’s been two years since Swedish trio Gentle Touch released their first EP, and apparently a lot has happened since then. On their first record, they sounded like a bad copy of Le Sport, who were a very popular band in Sweden at the time (a duo making music that was a blend of italo disco and modern dance music), Now that two years have passed, they, however, seem to have bought a lot of Depeche Mode records, especially from that band’s darker, mid-80’s period. I like the change, even though they are still not brilliant. Most of the songs are pretty good, but I think I would have liked them even more if they had made them a bit shorter. Mostly, the songs are four minutes or more, and even though that’s not very long, it’s long enough for me, especially if you can’t make the song interesting enough during those four minutes, and instead just let the music continue without vocals for the last minute or so. But, with that said, it’s a pretty good mini-album (there are only 8 songs on it), and I will probably check out their next release too, if and when that is coming out.
