intro
Rousing sing-a-long latest single from Piney Gir, who has reently moved away from her background in electronica and given her songs a country overhaul
A rousing sing-a-long countrytastic outing from Piney Ger's ‘Hold Yer Horses’ album, ‘Greetings Salutations Goodbye’ might unfortunately be just that. Given said album evolved almost by accident when Piney Gir hauled in some friends to adapt material from her most definitely not country debut album, ‘Peakahokahoo’ for a gig at a working men’s club, cautious about how her more left-field and eclectic material would go down with such an audience, she decided instead to give the songs a country overhaul. The resulting gig was such a success that the aforementioned album eventually followed; resulting in a lot more exposure and acclaim for Piney Gir than she’d enjoyed previously. The single is augmented by a cover of Bonnie Prince Billy’s ‘Ease Down The Road’ as well as a more acoustic reinterpretation of the title track credited to Piney Gir And The Bluegrass Two, both of which justifiably reinforce her newly acquired Americana credentials. On this basis the album ought to be well worth a listen. With a return to her more electronic material promised for next year, hopefully she’ll revisit her alter ego again before too long.

Funny, but also memorable and often touching country and western on third album from Kanasa-born, but now London-based singer-songwriter, Piney Gir |
