intro
Excellent first single of original material in five years from acclaimed UK punks, Capdown
Capdown are back. Oh, yes! Capdown are back. Having been absent from the scene for five years, from a studio album point of view, Capdown return with their first single from their highly anticipated album 'Wind Up Toys', which is due to be released early next year, through newly-signed-to label, Fierce Panda. Since 'Pound for the Sound', fans have been treated to live DVD and album offerings, as well as the band’s ever engaging and powerful shows, where Capdown have always shown their real class. At long last the newly recorded material arrives and doesn’t it just! With newcomer, Eddie on keyboard, 'Keeping Up Appearances' retains the Capdown verve, but introduces a harder, edgier sound, a combined result no doubt of Larry Hibbitt on production and a newly found need to experiment more. This moves the band more towards the punk arena, the added bite a most welcome addition, with a feint hint of hard rock thrown in for good measure. A-side 'Keeping up Appearances' is slightly stronger than its B-side 'Serious is Not a Sin', but only due to it being very good. The coupled quality of the two energising tracks seriously whets the appetite: more of the same please! This first single gives a real taste of how Capdown have progressed their style during their absence. Here’s hoping the album follows suit. This is one for those cold winter’s nights, when even the brandy is failing to keep you warm: fine stuff.
