intro
Impressively feisty and fresh-sounding second single from new singer, Sarah Harvey-Smart
Former ‘EastEnders’ bit part performer, chorus girl and advert actress Sarah Harvey-Smart‘s musical solo career got off to a convincing start with her debut single, ‘Blinded’, when it came out earlier this summer. Her second single, ‘My Own’, is also impressive. She takes the tired clichés of both “Sisters doing for themselves” and “Surviving on my own” and gives them a freshness. Her vocals soar with such angry feistiness on both opening track ‘My Own’ and closer ‘Be Who I Wanna Be’ that one can easily imagine her giving the man who has mucked around in both songs a probably much deserved kick in the groin, and then chucking him out onto the street, with his clothes scattered behind him. The middle of the three tracks on ‘My Own’, ‘Intuition’, is softer and more reflective, but, with Harvey-Smart telling herself to trust her own instincts, again comes from the heart and gut. As with ‘Blinded’, it still remains to be seen whether she can do anything else other than big power ballads and epic love songs. This, however,is a very strong record.
