Mercury Prize winners Gomez recently released a new album 'How We Operate' and toured the United Kingdom. Anna Gudaniec photographs them exclusively for Pennyblackmusic at Shepherd's Bush Empire in London
Gomez was formed in 1996 in Southport by Ben Ottewell (vocals, guitar), Ian Ball (guitar, vocals), Tom Gray (guitar), Paul Blackburn (keyboards, vocals) and Olly Peacock (drums). Best known for their debut album 'Bring It On', which won the 1998 Mercury Music Prize, beating off such competitors such as the Verve with 'Urban Hymns'and Massive Attack for 'Mezzanine', they have since gone on to record another four albums, 'Liquid Skin'(1999, 'In Our Gun' (2002, 'Split the Difference' (2004) and to much acclaim this year's 'How We Operate' (2006). The group are currently in the midst of a world tour, and have garnered a reputaion for combining fiery live shows with their unpretentious blues sound. These photographs were taken exclusively for Pennyblackmusic at a Gomez gig in June by Anna Gudaniec at the Sherpherd's Bush Empire in London
