intro
Impressive first single from their forthcoming second album for the much acclaimed Razorlight
Razorlight finally return at last with new material. Their last single, 'Somewhere Else', was meant to be the first single off their self-titled second album, but they ended up putting it on the end of a their first album, 'Rip It Up' as a remaster. Terrible, really, even if the track was great ! This is also great, and it shows the band do have other tricks up their sleeve. Hopefully their second album won't just repeat the pattern of their past success. 'In the Morning' is as fresh and perky and recalls Roxy Music's 'Love is the Drug' in its groove. And unusually for a band such as Razorlight, it goes fast, slow, fast slow. There are two CDS versions. The first has three tracks and the other has two. 'Doctor, Doctor', the first of the B sides on the first CDS, is slower and piano-based. It sounds like a bigger budget Hefner and, while less dramatic in tone, has a vibe to it that recalls 'I Don't Like Mondays'. 'What's It All About ?', the second track, is unlike them too, sounding like a combination of mid 70's solo George Harrison and the country rock sounds of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and lasting just over a minute. 'Black Jeans', which appears on the second CDS, is again slow and moody and based around minimal guitar. A 7" version features a live B side,'Get it and Go', recorded at Brixton Academy in London.
