intro
Snappily-played and harmonic new single from Mojave 3 which comes from their recently released album, 'Puzzles Like You'
'Breaking the Ice' is the first single from Mojave 3's new album, 'Puzzles Like You'. It is played very fast and it sounds like they will balls it up at any moment, which they don't. Even live they have it off to a tea. Its whole groove recollects that of the Only Ones' 'Another Girl, Another Planet'. The vocals are also very fast and feature a perfect harmony between Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell. Backed by a groovy Hammond organ and a 70's style piano, they have never sounded better together. 'Star in the Sky', the first of the B sides, recalls the country edged side of The Byrds. It again has strong joint harmonies, while its later beats have an element of the Cramps' 'Lost in Nashville'. 'Bright Lights', the second B side, is upbeat in an 80's style and has a furious hand clapped beat and is as happy as a summer's day. 'Breaking the Ice' is perfect summer pop and totally lovely.
