intro
New double A sided 7" new single from Tindersticks' frontman Stuart A. Staples, both tracks of which come from his second solo album, 'Leaving Songs'
Tindersticks' frontman Stuart A. Staples' new double A sided record has been released as a 7" vinyl. A CD version is also available but only from Beggars mail order. Both tracks come from his just released second solo album, 'Leaving Songs'. 'That Leaving Feeling' is a duet between Stuart and female vocalist and longtime collaborator, Gina Foster. Like on his previous duets with Gina, both his and her vocals work well, each telling their side of the story. This is backed by an elegant tune, which is never less than anything beautifully played and as lovely as anything by Tindersticks. There is even a brass arrangement in the middle. I'm not usually a fan of brass instrumentation, but this works well, and Stuart has got the right sound to it to make it perfect. 'There is a Path' again recalls Tindersticks. It is moody, elegant and well paced. It also has a vocal from Gina, but this time she backs him, Stu using it in a similar way to the way that Leonard Cohen uses backing. Both songs are absolutely lovely. It is good to have him back.
