intro
Scabrous third album from the angry-sounding Throttlerod, which fits into the gap between stoner and doom rock
Throttlerod’s sophomore album 'Hell or High Water' was a rackety ripper of an album, but it did have time for both an acoustic number and a longer jam in its dozen tracks. Album No. 3 is only 10 songs, and you don’t have to guess which two were left off: 'Nail' is a nasty piece of work that kicks off with the hellacious din of 'Prizefighter' and doesn’t relent until the final song, 'Indian Head' has come to its cymbal crashing final crescendo. The chugging bass of Chris Sundstrom and Kevin White’s hammering drums make for an album too scabrous to be called stoner rock, too fast to be called doom – indeed, the rhythm section’s angry insistence sounds like something from Mike Patton projects like Fantomas or Tomahawk. If Matt Whitehead’s irritable howl isn’t giveaway enough, it’s made clear by the lyrics - oblique as they sometimes are - that he’s been done wrong and it’s happy about it. 'Nail' is a good album to have around if you run out of Eyehategod, Corrosion of Conformity, or steel wool.
