intro
All girl five piece the Organ recently toured Britain. At a gig at the London Metro Anthony Strutt sees them play an entertaining set which occasionally hints at brilliance
This is the Organ's third gig in London in a week, and tonight's show is for Club Motherfucker, which is a lesbian club. The majority of the audience are mainly young males. Perhaps they expected a lesbian live show. Well, they could of gone around the corner to Soho for one of those. The Organ are an all girl five piece from Vancouver in Canada, whom were recommended to me because they sound like a female version of the Smiths, The eleven song set was entertaining, and occasionallyhinted at brilliance but I need to be slapped in th e face these days, and they didn't really do it for me. There were hints of Blondie, especially in singer Katie Sketch's vocals. It was, however, her Morrissey-style howls which attracted most of the audience tonight. Musically they were a little like the Smiths also although a little too restrained for me. At other times, they recalled the Cure with some strong keyboards and guitar lines. They are definitely a name to watch. Set list : Love Sudden Death Sinking Hearts Even in the Night Basement Band Memorize the City Steven Smith Grandma Brother Bells Encore : Its Time to Go No one Has Ever Looked So Dead
