intro
'Explosive combination of energetic guitar riffs and growling vocals" from the ever reliable Hot Snakes in what became the last John Peel session ever transmitted before his untimely death
The Hot Snakes bring together the best of both Rocket from the Crypt and Drive like Jehu. 'The Peel Sessions EP' takes songs from their first and third albums bringing together an explosive combination of energetic guitar riffs and growling vocals. ‘Braintrust’ is dominated by thick and powerful drum rhythms with out of control guitar riffs. The lyrics somehow manage to keep their melody and draw the song together. ‘This Mystic Decade’ tones down the drums and takes Rick Froberg’s lyrics to the centre stage. It is still in keeping with the pace of the album and leads effortlessly into ‘No Hands’. The EP goes out with a bang finishing with ‘Automatic Midnight’. This loudest track is captured brilliantly live and ends what became the last John Peel session ever transmitted before he sadly passed away. The EP is a must for any fan of the Hot Snakes, great music, a raw, live sound and cool cover art work that features the BBC visitor passes of all four band members.
