intro
Second single from new Birmingham-based band, the Editors, which proves worth buying for its Chameleons-influenced B side alone
This is the second single from the new Birmingham-based band, the Editors. Their first single , 'Bullets', which was limited to 500 per format on both CD and 7", sold out in one day. It was a great track and this carries on in similar style. This is available on two CDS and one 7 inch, each with different tracks. The main track 'Munich' is very like Joy Division. 'Crawl Down the Walls', the first track on the first CDS, has lots of echo and reminds me of the Pixies, while 'Colors', spelled the US way, is as sexy as a summer's day. It has vocals which are like those of Paul Banks in Interpol and musically is as strong as anything done by Kitchens of Distinction. The second CDS is, however, the one to buy. Its second track, 'Release' is as jangly as the Chameleons, has very deep, chunky drums and its vocals are slow and drawn out in a smokey John Cale fashion. It is absolutely fucking perfect, easily the best B side you will hear all year. If Doves made records this good then I would buy them, but they don't. 'Release' is very long, lovely and excellent listening for my old ears that have pretty much heard everything done within a guitar-based unit. 'Disappear' on the 7 inch, is doomy and bass-filled. It whole tune has an edge of fear wrapped around it. It is as goth as they come......
