intro
Double compilation CD from the now 25 year old ever eccentric Slovenian act Laibach
'Anthems 'is a double compilation CD from the quarter of a century old Slovenian band, Laibach. The second CD features remixes and also a DVD option which showcases footage of some of the better-known records in this collection. Much of the music on 'Anthems' has a Euro gothic industrial sound. Laibach dress in nazi uniforms and can laugh at themselves, but they also have serious overtones. 'Anthems' features a number of covers including a cheesy, and very cheesy it is too, version of Europe's 'The Final Countdown'. There are offbeat covers as well of the Beatles 'Get Back', the Rolling Stones 'Sympathy for the Devil' and Blancmange's 'Blind Vision' and also a fun version of the Status Quo' number 'In the Army'. Most of the rest of the tunes have an industrial marching style delivery. It's okay if you like that sort of thing.

Consecutively released with their 'Videos', controversial Slovenian act Laibach's two part 'Film from Slovenia/Occupied Europe Nato Tour 1994' helps to make further sense of their myth. Dave Toynton finds it brilliant stuff |
