Avrocar: Experimental aircraft designed in the 1950's. With it's distinctive flying saucer shape, it was designed as a Vertical Take Off Landingaircraft. Two pilots sat in bubble enclosed cockpits within the saucer. Equipped with annular nozzles and ingenious flow control mechanisms, the craft was to have a maximum speed of 300mph at high altitude. In tests, the craft was unstable and never operated at a height of over 4 feet. Cinematography:The technique of making motion pictures. Birmingham, England: City of central England, NW of London. Defining a term is always much simpler than conveying its meaning, just as feeling a sound is much simpler than writing a description ofthe sound. The later is especially true when the sound has qualities that make even discerning its source difficult. Birmingham, England:Heart of the Midlands. At one time the industrial center of England, where engineers, laymen, and machinery turned ideas into tangible objects. Now a center of musical experimentation where musicians use "machines" to turn sound into ideas. Home of Broadcast, Pram, Plone, Novak, agnetophone, and Avrocar. Cinematography: Earworm 48. 1000 copies. The first full length release from the band Avrocar. The utilization of sound to create images and feelings one cannot easily describe. From droning instrumentals like "Fega" and "Cathode & Cello'd" to the dreamy, pop-esque "Real Time" and "Ueno" (a rework of the 7" release), music that when played loudly has the ability to completely envelope and transport the listener. Avrocar: Creators of experimental music constructed with guitars, keyboards, bass, programmed drums, cellos, pianos, and unknown electronic apparatus. Formed in 1996 and having between 2 and 4 members at varioustimes, their work has been released in very limited quantities by the likes of Earworm, Liquefaction,Active Suspension, and Ochre. Fellow Birmingham experimenters, as well as Vangelis, Spacemen 3, Windy & Carl, Bristolites like AMP and FSA, and the ambient sides of Aphex Twin and Global Communication may come to mind. And like each of these artists, Avrocar is capable of creating sounds that are difficult to define or describe. Sounds that one feels more than hears. Sounds that create images and ideas. Unstable sounds that can go well over 300mph and at heights fa rexceeding 4 feet.
