Originally released in late’98 as a 6 track EP on the splendidly named Disarraygun Records and now expanded to full album status, the self-titled release by Orlando, Florida’s Nutrajet sets out its stall right from the start. Perhaps the world' s first power duo, Nutrajet’s nitro-driven assault fuses the snot ‘n’ sneer of the Sex Pistols to the melodic, though no less volume driven stylings of Cheap Trick. Obviously equipped with big amps that go all the way to eleven (at least!) Nutrajet sound more like a 6 or seven piece band with at least 3 guitarists and 2 drummers. If you’re in the mood for bouncing off walls and would like to hum a tune while you’re at it, then this album’s made for you. The album kicks off with ‘Alternative Nation’, the intro of which owes more than a passing debt to Cheap Trick’s fantastic version of ‘Surrender’ on their ‘Live At Budokan’ album from ’78 (one of the great live albums). Subsequently laying all around it to waste (I recommend nailing anything movable to the floor before pressing the play button) the band pound their way through 30 full throttle, needle in the red minutes, before closing with probably the best track on the album ‘No More You’ which really puts the power in pop. Comprising Greg Reinel on guitar and lead vocals and powerhouse drummer Suzanne Dozier, who also handles backing vocals, Nutrajet make a damn fine racket which anyone who enjoys a healthy dose of real power with their pop should find more than a little stimulating. Drummer Suzanne Dozier has left the band since the albums completion to be replaced by Jeff Wood. UK audiences will get the chance to judge the new line up for themselves shortly as the band arrive here in August for their debut UK tour. Ladies and gentlemen please fasten you seatbelts, Nutrajet are about to take your on the ride of your life.
