There is a huge amount of UK talent around at the moment - including several really impressive female artists. Since January is the time for predictions, I am picking out just three names who I believe might well enjoy big success before the end of 2025....... Brooke Combe:- From Dalkeith, near Edinburgh, Brooke Combe, 24, is an elegant soul singer with a powerful, smoky voice plus useful indie-rock connections. Her mum introduced her to the music of Gladys Knight and Diana Ross and she learned to play guitar, drums and piano while developing as a singer. She signed with a major label and in 2023 she released an impressive eight-track mix-tape ‘Black Is The New Gold’. She has subsequently moved on to Liverpool independent label Modern Sky and made an album, ‘Dancing At The Edge Of The World’ with The Coral's James Skelly which was released on 31 January. Brooke says, “I think we've created a real summer soul album” - and many in the music world expect the album to be a big success. Adele is taking a year's planned sabbatical, so there is definitely a gap in British music for a big-voiced soul diva. Brooke Combe has therefore timed the arrival of her new record perfectly. She is brilliant live too - and begins a UK tour on 3 April at the Arts Club, Liverpool. (Tickets are available from ticketmaster.co.uk). Fabiana Palladino:- An experienced backing musician and daughter of Pino Palladino – one of the UK's most sophisticated and admired session men - Fabiana Palladino has enjoyed progressive success. She studied music at Goldsmiths University in London and was subsequently a member of Jessie Ware's touring band. She was 36 by the time she released her (Covid-delayed) debut solo album in April 2024. That self-titled LP sold well. It was a rich mix of sultry vocals and silky, contemporary R & B which won great praise from New Zealand singer Lorde, who publicly hailed it as 2024's best album! Lorde is now collaborating with Fabiana who is also an accomplished producer. She will be playing Cross The Tracks, a London festival, on 25 May. (See fabianapalladino.com for more details). Alessi Rose:- A 22 year-old pop queen from Derby. who sings piercing but confessional songs about her exes, Alessi Rose has commented unaplogetically, “If people don't want me to write songs about them, they shouldn't do bad things”! Typical of her repertoire are debut single ‘Say Ur Mine’ and recent release “Pretty World” which is an intimate pop ballad. Despite playing her first professional gig only a year ago, Alessi has already enjoyed considerable success and starred at the Latitude, Reading and Leeds festivals last year. She has built a loyal following of fans (known as the ‘Delulu Girls’) who love the sheer honesty of her lyrics. Alessi Rose begins a UK tour at SWG3, Glasgow on 2 April - and this is likely to be the start of a very successful Summer for her! Top photo by Andrew Twambley www,twambley.com
