intro
Enjoyable covers album from Guns N’Roses guitarist Slash, which features guest appearances from Paul Rodgers, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler. Iggy Pop and Demi Lovato
Slash started life as Saul Hudson and was born in 1965 in Hampstead, London before moving to a small village near Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire. But from the age of six he emigrated with his parents to Los Angeles - and it was here in California that Slash was later to make his name as a guitarist with the hugely successful Guns N'Roses. Slash is noted as one of rock's greatest riff-makers and ‘Time’ magazine voted him second only to Jimi Hendrix as the best electric rock guitarist ever. He was the guitarist behind Guns N'Roses classics like ‘Sweet Child of Mine’ and is a hugely accomplished instrumentalist. On his new covers album, ‘Orgy Of The Damned’, Slash, however, focuses more on blues and soul standards. He is ably assisted by fellow rockers Paul Rodgers and Steven Tyler and, as always, his playing is exemplary. There are some unexpected moments too - such as when Iggy Pop joins Slash on ‘Awful Dream’. And American singer Demi Lovato really shines on The Temptations' ‘Papa Was A Rolling Stone’. ‘Orgy Of The Damned’ has may impressive lengthy jams - and clearly Slash is enjoying himself throughout the record which should really appeal to his many fans.
