Hello and welcome to the March edition of the Pennyblackmusic Magazine. We are trying something a little different with our next gig at the Water Rats in London on Saturday May 25th. We are presenting three solo acts, although not all of them will be playing solo. Two of them have already appeared on the Pennyblackmusic stage several times before. Our headliner Johny Brown is the frontman with the much acclaimed The Band of Holy Jpy, who have made four previous Pennyblackmusic Bands Bight appearances, but ever creative, while The Band of Holy Joy remain really busy, Johny has found the time to record his debut solo album, ‘Gut Feels’. This will be his first London solo gig, and he will be playing half his set solo and half with a band. Andt Thompson, who will be opening the evening, played with his former band, the sublime Idiot Son our nights more times than even we can recall, including their farewell gig in 2022. This will be his furst ever gig on his own, and he is promising a set of stripped down Idiot Son classics, as well as possibly some new songs. Middle of the bill is Hector Gannet, which is both the solo project and the band of Norhumberian songwriter Aaron Duff. Aaron has recorded two critically acclaimed albums of folk rock, ‘Big Harcar’ and ‘The Land Belongs to Us’, and will be playing as part of a duo with a keyboardist. Tickets are available at the budget price of £!2 in advance from We Got Tickets and also on the door (cash only) at £15. Thank you to Kimberly Bright, Paul Clark, Nicky Crewe, Jacqueline Crockford, Julie Cruickshank, Nick Dent-Robinson, Dave Goodwin, Zena Greig, Tommy Gunnarsson, Robert Hadley Steve Kinrade, Richard Lewis, Eoghan Lyng, Philamonjaro, Mark Rowland, Lisa Torem , Andrew Twambley and Amanda J, Window, all of whom have contributed to this edition. Special thanks tour webmaster Richard Banks, without whom none of this would be possible. We will be back in early April with another full edition. Thank you as always for reading Pennyblackmusic.
