intro
Infectious yet thought-provoking indie rock on third album from Reading-based group Sundara Karma
From their beginnings playing small gigs in Thames Valley pubs and clubs, Reading band Sundara Karma have built a solid base of loyal fans through their boundary-breaking music and punchy shows. They have played triumphant sets at Glastonbury, SXSW, Truck Festival and Oxford's O2 Academy as well as at Summer Sonic in Japan and their hometown's Reading Festival. The indie rockers take their name from the Sanskrit for ‘Beautiful Karma’ and their infectious melodies and thought-provoking lyrics are very attractive. Their recently-released third studio album, ‘Better Luck Next Time’ has been widely acclaimed and is selling well. Frontman Oscar Pollock, guitarist Ally Baty, bassist Dom Cordell and drummer Haydn Evans have a unique sound which encapsulates alternative rock, pop and punk, sounding simultaneously both fresh nd nostalgic. The new album was produced by Rich Turvey (Blossoms, Wombats, Courteeners etc) and it is a collection of nine songs that explode with exuberant indie effervescence reminiscent of their astutely-titled 2017 debut album, ‘Youth Is Only ever Fun In Retrospect’. Sundara Karma have also released an Autumn single, “Friends of Mine” which has shimmering guitar riffs and big, bolstered percussion. The band toured just before Christmas – including a date at Camden Town's indie rock haven, the Electric Ballroom.
