Midway through his twelve-date European tour, Paul Weller thrilled the sold-out audience at Barcelona’s Razzmatazz venue. The 28-song set included a six-song encore to end the two-hour concert, all of the show brilliantly performed. Weller opened up with the driving-beat 'Cosmic Fringes' from his 2021 LP 'Fat Pop, Volume One' and played other new material including the title track 'Fat Pop', as well as 'Testify', 'That Pleasure' and 'Glad Times'. Along with hits from his solo career such as 'Stanley Road' and 'Wild Wood', the set featured some Style Council songs: 'Headstart for Happiness'. 'It’s a Very Deep Sea', 'Shout to the Top!' and 'My Ever Changing Moods”' The latter, the second song in the show, really revved up the crowd early on. Changing things up from his guitar, Weller played keys for the slow groove cut 'Broken Stones' from 'Stanley Road' the album, and an acoustic guitar for the first track of the encore, 'On Sunset'. Weller’s sextet of performers were Jake Fletcher on bass guitar, Steve Pilgrim (drums), Tom Van Heel (keyboards), Jacko Peake (saxophone/flute), Ben Gordelier (percussion) and Steve Cradock (guitar). His most recent release is worth checking out, 2021’s “An Orchestrated Songbook” which features 17 tracks recorded by the BBC Symphony Orchestra with vocal guests offering a whole other interpretation of Weller’s compositions.
