Inventive West Coast psychedelic pop on second album from Los Angeles based trio Triptides
Los Angeles based trio Triptides, lead guitarist, singer-songwriter and keyboard player Glenn Brigman, guitarist and bassist Stephen Burns and drummer Brendan Peleo-Lazar, have released a new album, the follow-up to their ethereal ‘Alter Echoes.’ ‘So Many Days,’ written and recorded in the San Bernardino mountains, casts their distinctive West Coast psychedelic-pop sound in a more reflective mode. Songs to listen out for in this eleven-track collection include: the opener, the melodious ‘Highway Sun’, also released as a video: “This song is about a journey from the desert to the mountains of San Bernardino – and all the things you can find along the way. Driving in the desert, you tend to lose yourself in the romantic expanse of it all. But as time passes and you start you reach the mountains, there’s a focus and a clarity that you find. Before you know it, you’re at the top, and you can see everything”; the insidious ‘Fate’, with its hazy three-part harmonies; the laid-back country-rock title track; the haunting minimalist, acoustic ‘If You See My Girl’; the soulful, apocalyptic ‘Revelation Blues’ excoriating the lies and hypocrisy of politicians; the catchy ‘Happily Hopeless’ with its sober message on the inevitability of karma; ‘I’m With You’ with its subdued harmonies; and the closer, the dreamlike ‘Where I’m Going’. A mellow, multi-layered musical pot-pourri, ‘So Many Days’ is likely to gain a wider audience for this inventive band.
